As the 147th Open in Carnoustie tees off just along the road, some of you might be spending your time in Dundee while the tournament is on.

Here is our whistle-stop guide to some of the best places to eat, drink and be merry this golfing season.

Rory McIlroy plays a shot on a practice round ahead of the 147th Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Club.

Texan Hat burger at Tonic.

Get creative with your meals at this burger joint.

Tonic is a great bar/restaurant with fantastic coffee to boot, however the highlight of this cool place is definitely the novelty burgers.

There is a varied menu boasting a number of extravagant creations such as the Dessert Burger, a wacky creation which comes with banana and chocolate sauce.

Most of us love a good curry from time to time but Rishi’s offers something more.

Specialising in authentic South Indian food, this restaurant goes beyond your bhunas, kormas and madras with things like foot-long dosas and Hyderabadi Biryani.

There are few better places to get a sense of India closer to home than Rishi’s

Interior of the glamorous Oshibori on Perth Road

Travelling from India to Japan, we come to the luxurious Oshibori. This sushi and Ramen noodle-bar is the finest amongst a long list of East Asian restaurants in the city.

Oshibori’s lavish appearance makes for a unique dining experience which is coupled by fresh and flavoursome Japanese cuisine. Keep your eyes peeled for their Sochu Bar coming soon.

There’s nothing quite like good, hearty, Italian food, which is what Bellini is all about.

You’ll find this family-run restaurant in the city centre serving up great tasting, Italian classics as well as other European options to suit every taste.

Bellini strives to make each customer’s dining experience special with its intimate atmosphere and friendly staff.

Pubs & Bars

Porters Bar and Restaurant

Located at the City Quay, Porters is the perfect place to enjoy a meal or drink in a stylish setting.

Their huge range of drinks boasts some of the best wine and expensive gin around.

Whether you’re going for a meal or drinks with friends, you’ll be sure to return to this cool spot again and again.

Bird and Bear

This trendy little place can be found on your way to the waterfront and Slessor Gardens.

A quick look at their dishes on Instagram will get your mouth watering instantly.

Aside from food, they have a selection of tasty brunch beverages including mimosas and fizz – the perfect mid-day treat during your tour of Dundee.

Tickety Boo’s

Tickety Boo’s is always thriving at this busy city centre corner

For a more traditional pub setting, Tickety Boo’s is your best bet.

They have all the pub-grub and classic drinks you would expect from a Scottish watering hole. What really makes Tickety Boo’s worth the trip is the friendly atmosphere which spills out onto the streets. This busy city centre corner is a great place to sit outside, sip a pint, and watch the world go buy.

Beiderbeckes Bistro & Bar

Beiderbeckes’ relaxed setting is the perfect place to wind down.

For the smoothest eating and drinking experience in town, Beiderbeckes is the place to be.

This jazz bar has a chilled-out atmosphere and great food, perfect for winding down with some drinks or for informal dining.

While you soak up the vibes here, listen to some of the best jazz acts around perform live in the evenings – only for the coolest cats in town.
